At Vivacity, our goal is to make cities smarter. Our work makes traffic lights more intelligent, reducing congestion; spots dangerous manoeuvres on the road, improving safety; and gathers real-time data to support autonomous vehicles & city management alike.
To do this, we create cutting-edge products using machine learning, including sensors with on-board video analytics capabilities, and city-wide control and optimisation algorithms. We are currently rolling out thousands of sensors across the UK, and seeking passionate post-graduate engineer to join our Analysis, Research and Device teams.
We offer flexible working policies and a benefits package that includes a personal training budget, an annual company 3-4 days conference, and regular, varied company events. You can expect a warm welcome from a friendly team that would love you to join us at our social team evenings, ranging from pub trips to clay night, rock climbing to movies. This is an exciting opportunity to take an active part in shaping the future of an energetic company dedicated to revolutionising the way our cities work while supporting the personal growth of every team member.
About the role:
This role presents an excellent opportunity for postgraduate engineers to work in an intellectually and technically challenging environment on something really worthwhile. We're looking for a creative and passionate developer who shares our vision of making cities smarter. You have a genuine passion for coding, a respect for the development process and a desire to help improve our products. You thrive in an environment that deeply values collaboration, feedback, and learning.
Your day to day tasks will include:
Work in a small, cross-disciplinary team, taking ownership of products and features.
Build key products that get actively used by external clients. This could be anything from ML-based prediction modules, through to elegant dashboards that interrogate sensor data.
Learn to code better through the support of extensive code review, CI and comprehensive testing.
Enjoy a flexible working schedule; work from our cosy office in North London (Kentish Town), or from home on odd days.
Take part in regular games nights and other fun events.
Have some limited programming experience (e.g CS / Engineering degree or similar, or 1+ year of software development experience, or significant open source contributions).
Enjoy learning and picking up new technologies, frameworks and skills.
An excellent team worker, who likes brainstorming and collaboratively solving open problems.
Interested in educating your peers about the latest technologies and helping the team improve.
Excited about creating solutions for smarter cities
Highly motivated, adaptable, innovative and keen to learn.
